Beginner Tote Bag is a great way to start your sewing skills, using seams, hems, straps and also top-stitching, which are the 4 main steps used in ALL sewing. If you can make one of these, you cam make anything in sewing, as most garments include all of these skills, and more.
The pattern includes 5 pieces - 2 sides, 2 straps and a pocket (which is optional, but encouraged). You can either download the PDF format to print on A4 pages at home, or the A0 format, to have printed at a commercial printer (so you don't have to stick all the pages together). The best part - it's FREE!
You will need any fabric that is non-stretchy, the best is something similar to denim or similar to tea-towels. You can also use quilting cottons if you like the print. These fabrics are nice and stable, yet not too thick, perfect for learning how to sew.
Below is the finished measurements (once made) so you can see if the actual size works for you. It will fit a 13inch laptop, plus other small goods. The strap is not too long, therefore it should fit over your shoulder and sit under the armpit.
- Finished measurements - 45cm wide x 35cm height (2 of these)
- strap - 3cm x 48cm (2 of these)
- pocket - 20cm x 15cm
